In this busy bustling world of content creation, graphic design, and anything else under the sun that requires you to be creative, generating new ideas can be tricky. You don’t want to do something that has already been done a million times. You want to stand out from the crowd! The hardest part is figuring out how to make that happen.
Here are a few easy tips and tricks to help you get those creative juices flowing:
1. Securing Your Environment
Your environment is your biggest strength when it comes to generating a new creative idea. Sometimes you find inspiration on the bus on your way to work, or your home office filled with your creature comforts. Ideas can come from anywhere as long as you keep your mind open to them.
Although you may not feel like you have that luxury if you work in an office cubicle. I suggest decorating your space with things that help you be creative such as resource books over various topics that either pertain to your line of work or things that interest you, maybe place a photo or two of the people who inspire you at your desk. Make the space your own.
2. Utilizing Your Tools
A creative mind’s greatest tool is a notebook. I like using composition notebooks to jot down my thoughts and notes, but it is up to you what kind of journal or notebook you like to use. Having something handy for you to write down anything that comes to mind. Who knows, maybe you’ll finally come up with the answer you’ve been looking for all along.
3. Take a Break
The worst part about being creative is when you need to be creative and nothing works. It is tempting when you have writer’s block to try pushing through and finding something, but it isn’t good. It is okay to let your brain have a moment or two to relax. If you’re working on a project, it is ok to put it aside for a little bit and work on something else or just simply take a breather. If you can, take a walk outside, grab a snack, or make a fresh cup of coffee. Come back to the project because you don’t want to forget about it, but it’s ok to stop for a moment and take a break.
4. Schedule Your Priorities
It is easy to jump to the project that seems the most exciting and get carried away with it, but it is good to prioritize your projects in order of importance and to always have something to work on in case you get stuck.
5. Collaborate with Other People
Since the dawn of time, people have been working with each other, whether it is for survival or advancement. Though we aren’t needing each other to help hunt wild, we still need each other. When it comes to creativity, we feed off each other and our interactions. Talk to the people around you. You might be surprised at what you can come up with.
